What is the down to earth reason the USA is not winning in Afghanistan?

Coalition forces in Afghanistan are not winning in large parts of the south, the commander of Nato and US forces there has said. Obama agreed the USA is not winning the war. Obama states we must talk with the enemy.

btw The Yemen is next to your friends Saudi Arabia and over the water from Somalia which had trading relationship with Ancient Egypt and Mycenaean Greece since at least the second millennium BC,
As a new kid on the block, USA, you might think twice about tangling with these guys who have been around a while.
