Mr_Curiosity asked:

For a country that was born on freedom and anti-imperialism, there sure was a lot of annexation and military conflicts to gain land.

I can’t believe the USA got all the way to south east asia.
The USA opposed the british monarchy and how they were able to rule a country thousands of miles away.

What were the major factors that led to the USA developing into a major world power?

Idealist asked:

Other countries such as Canada, Brazil and Australia (and to a lesser extent many others) were colonised at a similar time to the USA and all have had similar advantages (high population, a wealth of mineral resources and huge amounts of land) and problems during their histories (difficult relations between settlers and natives, struggle to gain independence, huge wildernesses dividing the country).
Up until now out of the countries that used to be known as the New World only the USA has emerged as a major world power. What do you think set the USA apart from other countries with similar beginnings?

I have a history assignment with the question:

“Examine the extent of racism in the USA during the 1920s”

Could anyone give me any help on this, or send some links with useful information?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
(It’s due on 22nd April so no haste; just that here in Australia we have a holiday starting tomorrow, and I don’t want to spend my holiday searching the web.)
Thanks!

Did the USA really want to become a colonialist country in 1898?

ss asked:

As a result of the Spanish-American War in 1898, the USA got 3 colonies from Spain: Puerto Rico, Philipinnes and Guam. Nevertheless, the values of the USA, a country that fought against the colonialism, are different from the imperialist desires.
I also think that the USA gave the independence to Philipinnes and became Puerto Rico in a Commonwealth.
I don´t believe that the USA has been a real imperialist country, according to its own wishes.

Other than USA and Japan, none of the developed nations have the technological edge?

asked:

In several areas of technology and innovation, the USA and Japan (and to some extent, Germany and Sweden too) are far ahead than the rest of the world. And we never hear about any technological invention come out of the UK or Australia or Canada or France or China.

How come USA and Japan are far more technologically advanced than the other developed nations in the world?
