Just keep in mind that the US summer is winter here, it’s best to head north in winter eg Cairns, Darwin, Broome [who]
The type of visa that you can get will depend on your passport country. You would definitely qualify for a subclass 676 Tourist visa, but there may be easier ones if you’re a citizen of one of the countries with special arrangements with Australia.

Not being Australian or in the at country, you will need to contact the Australian Embassy, which is in New York.
Now San Jose is where actually (California)? If so look up the listings for Embassy’s or Representative Offices, like up here we have an Australian High Commission in Ottawa.
