Michael K asked:

My wife and I recently traveled in India with a world wide tour company. During the tour I was the victim of attempted extortion from the tour company. They demanded we pay a large fee that was not a part of any contract of service, or else they were going to abandon us in rural India. In the US this would be extortion. I don’t know what it would be in India, or even if it is illegal. If there is an Indian version of extortion, how do I file charges from the USA?

If the company is “world wide” you may not need to file charges in India against them; they may be subject to jurisdiction here. If you do need to handle this in India, a first point of contact would be that country’s embassy, and ask to speak with a legal affairs or consular officer. [who]
